Our First Week at WOMS

Library Intro by Michelle Cooper on GoAnimate

Wow, we just completed our first week of school at White Oak Middle School, and what a wonderful week it has been.  Students returned to school this week with lots of energy and curiosity. I was happy to share the new programs being offered at the media center this year.

Our book club will be participating in the Global Read Aloud founded by @pernilleripp.  This program allows classrooms around the nation and the world to connect and collaborate.  Our book club will be reading Fish by L. S. Matthews, and we will Skype with two middle schools in other parts of the nation. Check out the Global Read Aloud map and find White Oak!

Our tech club will be exploring the new makerspace at the WOMS Media Center.  The students were excited and curious about the Ozobots, Makey Makey, Squishy Circuits, and the Little Bits.  They are definitely ready for the first meeting of tech club. The response from the students has been so overwhelming that I have had to make some changes to accommodate the high number of students wanting to join.  What a great problem to have! We will alternate days and weeks for grade level tech clubs in order for all students to have the opportunity to create, explore and invent!

I would like to thank the WOMS ELA teachers for bringing all their students to the media center on the first week of school. I loved meeting the students and working with our fabulous teachers–Mrs. Kelley, Mrs. Floyd, Mrs. Shellhorse, Mrs. Cline, Mrs. Velde and Mrs. Iske.  I know this year will be filled with creative learning opportunities, and I am honored to be a part of White Oak ISD.
